Films made from Optical PTFE

Films made from Optopolymer®

We process our Optical PTFE into flexible Optopolymer® - OPF films with strengths from 0.1 to 6.0 mm for the use as diffusor films in transmission or in different reflection grades as reflection coatings. When processing the skived sheets, the unique lambertian surface structure remains and allows a homogeneous, diffuse reflection of up to > 99 percent, or rather with thin films an even light throughput (transmission) across the wide wave length of 250 to 2,500 nm. Thereby, various applications in the field of diffuse light scattering are feasible.

Reflection Films

Reflectors by Berghof – made from ultrapure, Optopolymer® and processed to flexible films in customized strengths – reach highest, diffuse reflection of up to > 99 percent. By adding specific pigments, we can also produce them in different gray scales.  Upon request, we can equip these reflection films with self-adhesive properties and cut them to different sizes so they can be adjusted onto different surfaces as coatings. Possible applications are for example linings for UV sterilisators or coatings for reflectance screens. Attached to so-called “reflectance targets”, reflectors are used as targets for calibrating optical systems such as for cameras of driver assistance systems.

Advantages

  • Different material strengths between 0.1 and 6.0 mm available

  • Flexible films, also suitable as linings for hollow bodies

  • Available as customized roll width of 10 to 600 mm as tapes
    (standard dimension see ordering information)

  • Different gray scales for calibrated reflection: 70, 50, 20, 5, 2 %R

  • Surface homogeneity (gray scales) +/– 1%R

  • Linearity of spectrum (gray scales) +/– 0.5 %

  • High energy density limit of up to ~8 J/cm² (laser damage threshold)

  • Robust surface, more robust against abrasion than comparable surface coatings

  • For easy processing, films can be equipped with self-adhesion, welded or clamped

  • Customized reflections and sizes available upon request

  • Calibration available upon request (PerkinElmer® LAMBDA 1050+ UV/Vis/NIR Spectrophotometer)

Applications

  • Lamps and LED reflectors

  • Coatings for UV sterilizers

  • Linings for photobioreactors

  • Reflectors for display and background lighting

  • Projection screens

  • Calibration and contrast measurement of optical measuring instruments such as spectrophotometers or LIDAR systems

  • White balance of camera systems

  • Linearity tests of optical measuring instruments such as colorimeters

Ordering information

Our white reflective films made of Optopolymer® achieve, depending on their material thickness, a highest diffuse reflectance of up to >99%R over a wide wavelength range (UV-Vis-NIR).
In addition to the standard films listed above, we are happy to offer you films in different thicknesses and specific dimensions, applied to different transfer tapes, in rolls on request.

Transmission Films

The transmission degree of the foil increases considerably at a minimal material strength (< 1 mm) and the transmission foils made from Optical PTFE show very low backscattering characteristics. This is why the films are suited as diffusors in the lighting industry. Another area of use are so-called cosine correctors in sensors for detecting light irradiation within a 180° field of vision with as little directional sensitivity as possible.

Advantages

  • Different material strength between 0.1 and 6.0 mm available

  • Available as customized roll width of 10 to 600 mm as tapes (standardized width 100 mm)

  • As flexible foils or stamped parts available

  • High energy density limit of up to ~8 J/cm² (laser damage threshold)

  • For easy processing, films can be equipped with self-adhesion, welded or clamped

  • Customized reflections and sizes available upon request

  • Calibration available upon request

Applications

  • Cosine diffusors for optical detectors

  • UV Spectroradiometers

  • UV sensors in Wearables (Smart Watch), or in smartphones as radiation monitoring

  • Light scattering films for lights / LED

  • Plasma monitoring
